Senior Network Engineer


Location: Pleasanton, CA

JOB SUMMARY

The Sr. Network Engineer will be responsible for managing the entire lifecycle of the network infrastructure for iTradeNetwork's internal and core operations services. This includes, but is not limited to: network design (LAN/WAN), security, capacity planning, hardware and software maintenance, overall network management and ownership of all networking related hardware such as routers, switches, firewall and load balancers.

Beyond responsibility for operations and administration of our 24x7 environment, the candidate will also be responsible for scalability, capacity planning, design and tuning.

Responsibilities:

  • Identification and resolution of hardware, software, or architectural issues in any of the networks supporting SignalDemand's database instances and/or hosts, especially those that directly impact the production services.
  • Analyzing systems errors or anomalies, as well as specific network performance issues and/or error messages, in order to ensure maximum uptime and service quality, and assessing trends that may ultimately result in degradation of service.
  • Formulating and implementing monitoring, policies, procedures and standards related to network management.
  • Troubleshooting application issues that involves network and security components in conjunction with our team of engineers and support personnel.
  • Functional knowledge of all SignalDemand production systems and subsystems outside of the networking layer in order to provide support.
  • Participation in on-call rotation on a periodic basis.

Qualifications:

  • BS/BA degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or a quantitative discipline.
  • 5 to 7 years direct experience required in the management and administration of network infrastructure (routers, switches, load balancers, SSL acceleration technology, etc) for high-availability systems.
  • 3+ years experience with network protocols for routing and access, including but not limited to: BGP, OSPF, RIP, EIGRP, etc.
  • Strong functional knowledge of TCP/IP is an absolute requirement.
  • Experience working in structured change management processes for highly available enterprise networks.
  • Experience building and configuring the network infrastructure to support and secure major internet host/network services, including but not limited to: web (http, SSL, etc.), mail (postfix, etc.), DNS, NFS, Kerberos/LDAP/One Time Password technologies, databases (Oracle) and Java.
  • Firewall/security experience (access control list (ACL) management, secure remote management practices, IDS, etc.)
  • Experience maintaining an MPLS WAN
  • Experience designing a Cisco DMVPN WAN environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, conducive to team development.

Additional skills considered a plus:

  • Experience with the use and implementation of enterprise monitoring and management frameworks.
  • Experience with multi-site routing, peering, and disaster recovery network architectures.
  • Experience or exposure to networking for high-availability systems / architectures (Linux Clusters, Oracle RAC, etc).
  • Experience with high-end SAN storage (Pillar, Brocade) solutions and IP networks are considered a plus.
  • Formal hardware training and/or certifications from one or more of the following vendors - Cisco Systems, Juniper Networks, etc.
  • Previous experience managing e-commerce websites and / or on-demand services.
  • Perl and/or shell scripting.
  • Certifications (CCNA, CCNP, CCDP, CCIE, etc.) will be accorded appropriate weight in the evaluation process in the context of prior employment experience and networking environments.
  • Experience maintaining and upgrading a Cisco CallManager VoIP system
