Job Title: Senior Software Engineer
Department: Software Engineering
Location: San Mateo, CA
Reports to: Director of Software Engineering

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who will be responsible for the design and development of one or more products within a focused team of engineers. This person is expected to provide analysis to software design. Instill provides an ideal environment for software engineers to grow in their career through participation in all aspects of software design (front-end, back-end, database, UI, etc.)

Responsibilities:
• Code major components of the product, to ensure that documentation is complete and accurate
• Mentor one or more junior engineers within the project team
• Participate in team code reviews
• Perform unit and integration testing following development practices and rules of thumb established by software engineering Managers and Directors

Skills Required:
• Direct experience with the full software development life cycle, including at least one major product release.
• Technical expertise in the following areas: Java, J2EE technologies, J2EE application servers, HTML and XML related standards, JavaScript, PL/SQL, Oracle, OLTP and data-warehouse modeling, UNIX.
• Proven problem-solving and technical debugging skills; extensive programming knowledge and software design skills.
• Extensive experience in the design and implementation of major software products.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability for technical report writing and conveying in-depth technical topics to others.
• Experience working with cross-functional teams from multiple departments, not just engineering staff.
• Ability to work in a team and to mentor and motivate junior staff.
• Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in software engineering

Skills as a Plus:
• Experience with J2EE portal technologies and portlets (JSR-168)
• Experience with AJAX
• Experience with SQL query optimization and performance tuning

Qualifications:
• The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (MS preferred).
